Information Technology Blog - - How AI Influences the Future of Work - Information Technology Blog
AI or Artificial Intelligence is the future of almost all the technologies we know today. If it seems a little harsh to say that AI is the future, read on to see how this part of the ultra-sophisticated software and computer development is going to reshape the world soon enough!
A little bit about the origins of AI
The first records about AI date back in prehistory. The myth about Hephestus and his robots that he made from gold is the first record about an Artificially intelligent being. Of course, this is just a myth, but the idea of humanoid robots working for human Gods first originated centuries before Christ.
The first and real example of AI was shown to the public in 1998 when the computer Deep Blue, powered by AI software, beat the world chess champion, Gary Kasparov, in a live televised match. Since then, there was a silent period until the beginning of the 2010s, when AI software started regaining its popularity.
Now, AI is being used in many industries. From gaming to marketing and serious medical procedures. The good thing about it is that the growth pace isn’t going to slow down, and some amazing technological breakthroughs are still waiting for us in the future.
How will AI affect people’s jobs
The artificial intelligence statistics show that 40% of business leaders think AI will increase productivity. But, to increase someone’s productivity at work, they need to have a job.
Other stats show that AI already costs millions of people their jobs. People are being fired because there’s no more need for them. The AI-driven computers are taking over their places and are doing the same job much more effectively while they are paid nothing.
For example, human customer service is being completely taken down because AI chatbots are doing the same thing way better than any human employee can do it. There’s no need for people communicating with customers because robots can do it fast, precisely, and professionally.
The World Economic Forum predicts that by the year 2022, around 75 million people will lose their jobs due to AI. The good thing is, another 133 million jobs will be created because of the same reason. The numbers are different from source to source, but they all agree that AI will change the job market from its core.
Some predictions say that the total number of people affected by it by 2030 will reach 800 million. That’s an enormous number of people that will need to retrain or look for another job. We can expect a massive outburst of discontent and people will surely hit the streets if the authorities and governments don’t do something about this problem.
How will AI make the industries better?
It kinda depends on what we mean by better? Is it – who will profit the most? Is it – who will make a more significant impact on humanity?
If we’re talking about profits, then it seems like engineering industries will see the most benefit from AI. This industry is expected to see a rise in revenue for 45% over the next decade. The other industries that will also benefit a lot are administration, customer service, finance, marketing, and so on.
When it comes to impact on society, we can say that thanks to the rise of AI we’ll see a major improvement in the safety and the medicine. At this moment, hospitals that are equipped with Google’s AI computers, can scan and detect cancer with 89% accuracy, which is much better than even the best radiologists out there. Imagine how many saved lives that will be in the future.
And what about the new line of autonomous vehicles that are going to become trending really soon? They are all being driven by AI software and the help of cameras and microphones.
Actually, the entire vehicle industry is driving toward a new concept – electric fueled machines. The world is completely abandoning petrol because it’s simply polluting the planet too much. The new vehicles are actually just giant motherboards powered by batteries that are strong enough.
This and the AI behind the wheel means that very soon, the Uber driver is not going to be some strange guy that looks suspicious, but a clean empty cab that will take you from one place to another without having any unnecessary communication with you. You’ll pay using a special app, and the overall experience is going to be the safest possible transportation with zero unpleasant situations and without cash payment.
How about the safety of our homes? On average, a burglary happens every 23 seconds in the States. Our homes are not protected as they are supposed to be unless we’re a part of the smart-homes equipped with technology that will raise the safety to a completely different level.
Today, and expect an even more sophisticated version in the future, the safety systems are backed by AI software that can recognize all kinds of dangers. The cameras in and outside the home can detect not only burglars but also suspicious behavior – like the neighbors on your property or people visiting your home like delivery, mailmen, etc.
Also, the system can detect fire, flood, or even the behavior of people living inside the house that is not considered normal. So, if someone falls down the stairs, the AI computer will immediately alarm the family and will call the ambulance. It can also recognize people having a stroke and other dangerous situations. Cool, right?
Conclusion
As you can see, a lot of people will lose their jobs due to AI, but look at how many things humanity will gain from it. If your job seems to be jeopardized by technology, it’s best to start learning new stuff as soon as possible and be prepared for the worst.
