But are you searching in vain and are unable to find the person? Here are some tips and options for methods on how you can make your search for unknown relatives more fruitful. What you basically need to do is a working web browser, some spare time and lots of persistence.

Collect information about the person you are searching for

Basically before you start your search, you must have ample information about the person you are looking for. You can list down his likes and hobbies, their middle and last name or their place and date of birth. These things help narrow down your search and give you an idea as to where to start your search from.  Don’t prolong your search for the person. Instead start immediately as soon as you have gathered enough information about the person.

Start where you left from

If in case you have been searching for a while without success for a missing or lost person, you are bound to lost hope and drop the search. After that if you happen to research again don’t start from scratch but pick up from where you left off.

Ancestry.com and Familysearch.org are well known and reputed genealogy websites who have made provisions for online access to their records which hold details about your family and let you know of relatives you did not even know you had. If your search is for a blood relative, you can check the database of DNA genealogy services which have records of uniting siblings and parents with their children.

Accessing these records can be useful if you correctly have information and know the occupation or profession of the person you are searching for. You can access the trade organizations members database, and if you are lucky enough you can also know the place of work of the missing person which can help you make immediate contact with him.

The social networking site is not only useful for keeping in touch with friends and updating the status but is also useful to search for people long lost. When using these social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter, make sure to search using variations in the name of the person for e.g. name and last name or just the middle name or even maybe the name of the person along with the place he lives.

Prison database

After searching for the person in every possible place physically and on the internet, you must also check the records of the prison database. The website of the Federal Bureau of prisons has a feature which is an inmate locator tool which helps the user to search of inmates in the prison cell by their name.

Court records

Also searching in the court records will be a useful tip as the website is available publicly for searching using the name of the person. After that one can select from the flashed names according to the closest resemblance to the person you are searching for.

As said, persistence is the key to successfully find the person you are looking for. Don’t lose hope and keep trying.
