Just thought I would share this great feedback from the President of Shared Services Canada (SSC), Paul Glover, to TECHNATION members: ‘’A BIG gigantic thank you to all of your members,” as Paul described SCC’s transforming in weeks – what might normally have taken years.
Our recovery efforts continue to focus on a ‘new normal’ of agile procurement, with federal, provincial and municipal governments. We are optimistic we will help lead this change in the weeks and months to come.
Additional efforts include driving technology adoption across Canada through our Cybersecurity Best Practices Advisory Group and upcoming programs.
Our TECH2GOV Innovation Exchange is now at over 100 companies nationally, and next week will feature a ‘national dashboard’ and direct access for government procurement managers to tech companies across Canada who have registered. We are looking forward to providing live demonstrations to SSC to get their staff fully engaged as well.

FEDERAL UPDATE
- TECHNATION seeks input from members on the current CRTC Call for comments – Regulations to be made under the Accessible Canada Act. In response, TECHNATION has prepared draft remarks, which were sent to all federal Public Sector Business Committee (PSBC) members. Should you wish to participate in this process, and to provide your feedback, contact Andrew Walker.
- To better inform our discussions with public sector leaders, we ask that you complete the second TECHNATION TECH2GOV Innovation Exchange survey, which can be found here at your earliest convenience. This short, updated survey, which should take you no longer than five minutes, will provide us with crucial information we can share with our government partners.
- Last Thursday, we hosted our monthly PSBC meeting where we heard from Marc Brouillard, CTO of the Government of Canada, and Raj Thuppal, Senior Assistant Deputy Minister – Networks, Security, and Digital Services, Shared Services Canada (SSC). They discussed the Government of Canada’s technological response to the COVID-19 crisis. Additionally, members heard from representatives of Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada and SSC on their respective ministry’s ongoing work. ONTARIO UPDATE
- Today, the Ontario PSBC heard from senior Government of Ontario leaders from Economic Development, Job Creation, and Trade and the Red Tape Policy department on their work to rebuild the economy as we emerge from the COVID-19 crisis. Tech4Canada
The Responsible Tech Council is a collaborative multi-sector council comprised of industry and government leaders, to identify critical technology challenges and establish action-oriented priorities that can be accomplished within a 12-18 months horizon. The next Council meeting will focus on a COVID-19 call to action.
HOLD THE DATE: SME Cyber Best Practices Virtual Event

The International CyberCrime Research Centre at Simon Fraser University is currently working on working on a project about Canadian critical infrastructure, which is funded by Natural Resources Canada. They are looking for Canadian tech organizations to participate in a short survey to evaluate the cyber-risk posed to Canadian critical infrastructure, with the goal of understanding the potential threats posed by hackers, the nature of attacks faced by industry providers, and the measures in place to prepare, prevent, and respond to cyberattacks against their systems. The survey looks at the types of attacks commonly faced, approaches to securing critical systems, redundancy measures for coping with failures to interdependent critical infrastructure, and opinions on how the current best practices may be adjusted to further enhance systems’ resilience. The survey is completely anonymous and confidential. The survey is already available and will close August 31, 2020. It should take between 15-25 minutes to complete.
