The Difference between Web Design and Web Development

Information Technology Blog - - The Difference between Web Design and Web Development - Information Technology Blog

The majority of web owners don’t know the difference between web design and web development, so I am here to set the record straight. In most cases, this confusion is understandable.

I was also confused in my early years of learning web development.

since having several resemblances. To help you get rid of this confusion, you need to know the roles of a web designer and what is involved in web designing. By observing the roles of both web designers and developers are completely different.

To help you understand these two, here are the difference between web development and web design.

Web Design

The biggest role of a web designer is to transform an idea, or a story, into a visually appealing design, to enhance the user experience when engaging with a website. Their main objective is to design the website according to the feel and look of the client. Just like an architect would create a plan for a house before a contraction begins, a web designer will model the layout of your website before a web developer comes in to develop the website.

Most of the time web designers are underrated and their work is viewed as simple. However, this is not the case. Web designs need to integrate user experience as much as possible. This creates a receptive environment to please the user. They also have to change an idea from writing into usable design and interface to attract the user’s attention and this is not as easy as it seems. Many visual aspects need to be put into consideration and this requires a lot of consideration.

A website won’t be effective enough if web design was not incorporated into it in the early stages of web development. Today, web designers are rated at the same level as developers. User experience is very important when running a website and developing a website without proper design will not cut it.

To show you just how important web design is, designers have an entire library of strategic techniques for themselves. This is needed since web design is an art that requires reference and you can’t just read specifications and just dive into the project. It all begins with a scope while focusing on the website’s purpose. It all starts by envisioning the design in your mind and see how you can use that design to complement the requirement of a business. The next step is sketching the design in a rough draft to start working on it. After sketching, the next thing is to move the sketches to wireframes > mock-ups> final design. Most web design experts build the whole website in design components. They do this with a pixel perfect layout of all the web pages, icons, typography, and other intricate features.

The Main Roles of a Web Designer

  • Employing different web design tools to build the final layout design of the website
  • Skilled in graphic and logo design
  • An experienced designer should have a good feel for user experience
  • Should be able to design websites using the latest web design trends
  • Keep the web design consistent to develop identity and uniqueness
  • Good eye for the branding of the website
  • Web designers have to also keep in mind the branding of the website, (color palettes, typography, and readability)

Web Development

Development, on the other hand, refers to turning the designs into a live website. This involves the use of languages and software tools to develop the design and functionality of a website. Web development is further divided into two sub-categories which are front-end development and back-end development. To have a fully functioning website, front-end developers should have a little knowledge of both web design and back-end development, since all these things are necessary. A front-end developer is one who provides the layout and builds the interface for easy transactions between the website and the website and the visitor.

There are three main languages used in the front-end development and these are Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and JavaScript (JS). These three programming languages allow developers to create full-fledged websites. A developer can carry out tasks such as inserting images, design layout, applying different types of typography and font families, the flow of different pages, implementing animations, and form interfaces.

When it comes to back-end development, it involves controlling the server data and requests. This is necessary for a website with dynamic data. For example, websites that contain forms with personal data (such as creating an account), or saving an article for your blog page. This means that this data has to be stored for later use; therefore, it requires direct database connections from the server. This requires the use of languages such as PHP or ASP.NET. Data database queries are written using SQL or MySQL languages.

The Main Roles of a Web Developer

  • Interface development for user website interaction
  • Front-end developers use different languages to speed the development process
  • Front-end developers provide back-end developers with markup design to develop dynamic websites
  • Back-end developers use languages like PHP and MySQL to create a website’s backbone
  • Both front-end and back-end developers use software application tools to code and build the structure of the website.

Conclusion

I trust that you now have a clear understanding of the difference between web design and development. As you can see both web development and web design have different but critical roles in building a website. They both compliment each other to create a full-fledged website.

9 VCs in Madrid and Barcelona discuss the COVID-19 era and look to the future

Spain’s startup ecosystem has two main hubs: Madrid and Barcelona. Most observers place Barcelona first and Madrid second, but the gap appears to close every year. Barcelona has benefitted from attracting expats in search of sun, beach and lifestyle who tend to produce more internationally minded startups. Madrid’s startups have predominantly been Spain or Latin America-focused, but have become increasingly international in nature. Although not part of this survey, we expect Valencia to join next year, as city authorities have been going all-out to attract entrepreneurs and investors. The overall Spanish ecosystem is generally less mature than those in the U.K., France, Sweden and Germany, but it has been improving at a fast clip. More recently, entrepreneurs in Spain have moved away from emulating success in pursuit of innovative technologies. Following the financial crisis, the Spanish government supported the creation of startups with the launch of FOND-ICO GLOBAL, a €1.5 billi...

Emulating USB Dongle – Introducing HASP Dongle Emulator Software

Information Technology Blog - - Emulating USB Dongle – Introducing HASP Dongle Emulator Software - Information Technology Blog Over the years the methods used by software developers and producers to limit the amount of users to a specific number in a licensing agreement have become more complex.  The aim of copy protection is to protect the intellectual rights and financial investment of the individual developers and manufacturing companies.   A way of getting around this protection is to reproduce the media through which you can deliver the application to other users,  meaning that the software can be replicated far in excess of that specified in the license. One of the most common methods has been to use hardware keys or dongles which will enable the user to activate an application, unlocking its full functionality without using a device.  In addition, it offers good protection against attempts to pirate the software. In this article, we will look at th...
