It’s amazing to be alive in this day and age when you can now get a laptop cheaper than the cost of a mobile phone or even a higher-end NVIDIA GeForce video card.  Only a 3 decades ago, a flat panel was unheard of, and a hard drive was 5 times the price of a $200 laptop today.

$200 to spend on a laptop today gives you much better options that what they used to be.  While you might not be able to play graphic-intensive games or do video editing, they are more than enough for basic daily functions, like browsing the Internet or using office programs.

Today, most applications are now on the cloud, meaning, you don’t need much to run many applications, as all the processing is done on the server in the cloud.

For those looking for a little more power, you can get a refurbished i5 computer in the range of $200 or lower.  These make great engineering students laptops or simply some of the best laptops under $200 for everyday use and work, home or school.

For example, the Dell Latitude E6410 and HP 8470P are a couple of decent business-class laptops and come with a 14″ screen, Intel Core i5 with 4GB ram, 250GB hard drive, DVD reader, and Windows 10 pro for around $200.  Of course, you can add more resources to your laptop to increase performance.  For $200 for an i5, that’s some bang for your buck!

You can find an Asus E402SA laptop for under $200 and as low as $179. It’s a 14-inch compact design with a resolution of 1366 x 768 and the glossy display looks great and is not a big drain on the battery. The laptop has an Intel Celeron N3050 processor, a full-sized SD memory card slot, and two USB ports (one is even USB 3.0). Turn one screw to remove the bottom panel and upgrade your memory and storage to SSD quite easily.

Lenovo Ideapad 100s

The Lenovo Ideapad 100 laptops can be found for under $200, as low as $149. It feels a little cheap with its plastic feel and appearance; they made it available in a few colors, perhaps to get people past that underwhelming quality appearance. This laptop has an older quad-core Intel Atom Z3735F chip, but still slower than the Celeron N3050 dual-core processor found in rival machines. There are no 3.0 USB ports on this machine as well. One good thing about this laptop is it’s stronger battery life and does the job like all the others.

HP Stream 11 (2016)

HP Stream 11 laptop can be found for under $200. What makes this laptop appealing is it’s almost full-size keys and keyboard. This laptop has an Intel Celeron N3050, and while it is slower and not that great for multi-tasking, it can still do the job.
