Windows 10 sucks for some, good for others

Information Technology Blog - - Windows 10 sucks for some, good for others - Information Technology Blog

Windows history patterns have shown that after a bad Windows release comes a good Windows release, and then a bad, and then a good. A brief history, for example, Windows 2000 (good) vs Windows Me (bad), Windows XP (good) vs Windows Vista (bad), Windows 7 (good) vs Windows 8 (bad). This release, we’re due for a good version of Windows, but are consumers happy?  As a general rule of thumb, it’s always best to wait a few months or for the first service pack before upgrading to let bugs get sorted out in the latest new Windows and for Microsoft to patch things up and address unhappy users.

Why is Windows 10 upgrade free?

While Windows does not represent a huge revenue opportunity, it’s see as a catalyst for growth to related cloud services, an area which new Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, is an expert in.  See below on how to get Windows 10 for free.

Should you upgrade though?

This particular customer was not too happy seeing first impressions of Windows 10.  In the final release, appearances are not as bad as they had been shown in test versions, but some flaws and annoyances continue to exist.

Windows 10 Pros

As bad as it seems, in these reviews, there are some benefits to using Windows 10:

Some of these pros include:

  • Welcome back to the Start Menu
  • Microsoft has a digital assistant, Cortana (like Apple’s Siri)
  • Edge Browser, a more lightweight and improved browser over Internet Explorer
  • Windows Phone integration, with Continuum
  • DirectX 12 and improved gaming performance
  • Multiple customizable desktops
  • Multi-task with “window-snapping”, which allows one to place windows in four quadrants
  • Assess hard drive space in categories
  • Security feature: “Windows Hello” integrates security hardware for fingerprint, iris scans and facial recognition to unlock computer
  • Ability to encrypt apps, emails and data
  • Convenient action and notification center that displays messages and provides access to commonly used settings

Free Windows 10 Upgrade

For one year, Microsoft is giving out a free upgrade offer for qualified Windows 7 and Windows 8 devices.  The upgrade is for a full version, not a trial.  Remember to make an image of Windows as a precaution, in case you want to revert to your old installation, or you can rely on the recovery option, which is not always 100% functional.

Upgrading from XP?

If you are upgrading from XP, Windows 10 is not free, but still relatively inexpensive.  Make sure to check system requirements.

Buy Windows 10

Did you install Windows 10 over Windows 7 or 8 and were left disappointed?

There may be a way to go back to your previous operating system.  To do so, proceed as follows:

  1. Open the Start menu and select Settings. Click the “Update & security” icon and select “Recovery.”
  2. You should see a “Go back to Windows 7″ or “Go back to Windows 8.1″ option.
  3. Click the “Get started” button to restore your previous Windows install.

Note: If it has been over 1 month or you’ve run the disk cleanup tool to remove the “Previous Windows installations” files or had manually deleted the C:\Windows.old folder, this option will not be available.

9 VCs in Madrid and Barcelona discuss the COVID-19 era and look to the future

Spain’s startup ecosystem has two main hubs: Madrid and Barcelona. Most observers place Barcelona first and Madrid second, but the gap appears to close every year. Barcelona has benefitted from attracting expats in search of sun, beach and lifestyle who tend to produce more internationally minded startups. Madrid’s startups have predominantly been Spain or Latin America-focused, but have become increasingly international in nature. Although not part of this survey, we expect Valencia to join next year, as city authorities have been going all-out to attract entrepreneurs and investors. The overall Spanish ecosystem is generally less mature than those in the U.K., France, Sweden and Germany, but it has been improving at a fast clip. More recently, entrepreneurs in Spain have moved away from emulating success in pursuit of innovative technologies. Following the financial crisis, the Spanish government supported the creation of startups with the launch of FOND-ICO GLOBAL, a €1.5 billi...

Emulating USB Dongle – Introducing HASP Dongle Emulator Software

Information Technology Blog - - Emulating USB Dongle – Introducing HASP Dongle Emulator Software - Information Technology Blog Over the years the methods used by software developers and producers to limit the amount of users to a specific number in a licensing agreement have become more complex.  The aim of copy protection is to protect the intellectual rights and financial investment of the individual developers and manufacturing companies.   A way of getting around this protection is to reproduce the media through which you can deliver the application to other users,  meaning that the software can be replicated far in excess of that specified in the license. One of the most common methods has been to use hardware keys or dongles which will enable the user to activate an application, unlocking its full functionality without using a device.  In addition, it offers good protection against attempts to pirate the software. In this article, we will look at th...
